How to get Dj Gigs from your Bedroom!
If you have ever wondered if it was possible to land dj gigs from your bedroom, than keep reading on.
Djing is currently an over saturated market and unfortunately this is driving down the salaries. This is a good thing for people who are new to “the game”. There is plenty of opportunity for you to come in and for a venue to take a chance on you for a small price.
Although this is frustrating for many Dj’s, that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of the opportunity. In today’s guide you are going to learn everything you need to know about landing dj gigs from the comfort of your own bedroom.
What is a Dj Gig?
A Dj Gig is any opportunity someone may have to earn money by playing music for an audience. This DOES NOT have to be a club. A Dj Gig can be a block party, communion, boxing match, sweet 16 or wedding, club, lounge, etc… Basically anytime you are offered money to provide music for someone would be classified as a Dj Gig. A Dj Gig is NOT limited to what I mentioned above those are just examples.
There are many benefits from getting Dj Gigs. The most obvious being that it is a way for you to collect revenue. Another benefit is that it puts you in front of people. Like I mentioned earlier it does not have to be a club! I will do another Blog about marketing but just to keep it simple right now. You want to be in front of people with your equipment. There is a greater chance that someone approaches you and asks for your information than if you are sitting at home.
How to get Dj Gigs from your bedroom?
Ok so now lets get into it… Lets talk about some basic things you can do to get Dj Gigs from your bedroom. The first thing you can do is create mixes also known as demos. You are going to want people to be able to hear what your mixes. The next thing you need to do is reach out to people. You can do this by sending messages on social media. What I have found to be a better return on my invested time is cold calling people.
Google the different venues that are in your area. Do a little research to see which ones have a dj, and give them a call directly. Even if they don’t have dis, call them anyway. Start by introducing yourself and say that you are looking to speak with the owner. Try and find out the name of the owner prior to the call.
Additionally
Tell the owner that you are a dj from the area and would love to Dj at their venue for a competitive price! This circles back to what we spoke about earlier with the state of the industry being so over saturated. The owner knows there will be a small financial risk they are taking on you. You can reference your demo mixes and point them to your social media. We will talk about in the next blog titled marketing.
The last thing you can do is walk right into venues, introduce yourself and mention that you are interested in Doing at the venue. The best part about all of the 3 things that I just mentioned is the worst that can happen is they say no. If you pound the pavement and really put in the time, you can absolutely take your Djing hobby from your bedroom, to a venue.
How much do Dj’s get paid?
The answer to this question is solely reliant on your market and your individual Supply and Demand. I can tell you that here in the NYC area the range can be anywhere from $200 for 4 hours on a Saturday night to over $4000 if you are Djing a wedding or are a very in-demand Dj.
In Conclusion
If you are looking to get Dj Gigs from your bedroom you just have to be persistent with messaging and cold calling. There are many opportunities in every market. Wherever there are people that want to go out and be social, there is a chance for you to make money. In this blog we didn’t discuss talent level, experience or demand. We just touched on the fact that it is possible for anyone to get a Dj Gig from the comfort of their own bedroom.
The new site is officially up and running…here is a place where you can download mixes for free, contact me for bookings and check my schedule. Thank you everyone for your support and please be sure to share the podcast on your social media!
It’s been a while since I have posted a blog and I will be making a commitment to put at least one out every week. In this day and age content is king so please check back weekly for updates! This website, unfortunately was created at a time when viewing sites on mobile devices was not a “thing”…The update should be completed within the month and viewing on mobile devices should be much easier. Thank you everyone for your support!
I am happy to share that I no longer have any available dates until 2018! If you asked me 12 years ago when I started helping out on the microphone at block parties if I would think I would get to where I am today, I would have said absolutely! Always believe in yourself and set goals…Hard work pays off! The best part of my plan hasn’t even started yet so stay tuned to see what’s next!
First off thank you everyone for your continued support. This summer was very exciting for me and I will never forget the times we shared together down in Long Beach. I have played many venues and I can say with confidence that the Long Beach crowd is as good as it gets. I have never witnessed a song along crowd with that much enthusiasm…on a consistent nightly basis! Now turning the page I look to the Fall season. It will be a busy one with more scheduled dates at the Beach House in Long Beach. I have many private parties popping up so make sure to contact me if you’re interested in having me perform at your next event, no matter the occasion. Lastly, I am happy to announce that I will be returning to Kashi in Rockville Center. Kashi will always have a place in my heart because I had a residency there for 5 years. I am scheduled to start in October and look forward to providing the soundtrack while you enjoy the best sushi in a great venue! Hope to see you at a show soon! PLAY ON!
